| Happy New Year! The holiday season is now passing and we are looking forward to a New Year and longer days of sunlight. The end of the year and beginning of the next is always a time for both reflection and excitement for what the new year can bring. Although many of us may try to set new goals, it is difficult to keep connected to them during the busy schedules we all have. So in looking forward to this New Year it always seems that there are so many goals to set: ride more, groom the horses more, participate in training the younger horses more, seed the paddocks, etc., etc. Let’s face it there are too many things to do on a horse farm. In addition, recently I participated in a yoga retreat during which you learn to concentrate on your own inner awareness which includes healthy eating, meditation, and breathing techniques for enhancing your vital force throughout the day. Since yoga is very beneficial for equine athletes, this was a bonus for me. So after the retreat and with the advent of the new year upon us, it is apparent for me that an easy goal to actualize this year would be to spend ten minutes, each day, or a couple of days a week, with a horse in hand and just look around your surroundings, breathe deeply and visualize the beauty of the moment. Take a few very deep breathes and allow a long sigh to vocalize…..look at the trees, look at the sky, and imagine a very pleasant experience. Perhaps this will be visualizing a perfect dressage test, or seeing your horse perform well in the show ring. Perhaps it will be visualizing yourself with more time and riding on a trail ride. Enjoy the beauty around you and share it with your horse. Relax and savour the moment. May the New Year bring you special joys 12/27/04 | | |
